How to Show Love to Your Customers

How to Show Love to Your Customers

It’s February, which means love is in the air. What better time to show appreciation to the most important people to a business – customers. This month, we’re focusing on how to grow a business by making customers feel appreciated. Let’s start by highlighting ways to show love to your customers.

Interested in growing your business? It’s all about showing some love and appreciation! While we all hope to attract new clients, convincing ones you already have to stick around is cheaper and easier. In fact, repeat business is often the difference between start-up failure and long-term success. That’s why it pays to nurture and care for the customers you have.

This approach doesn’t even need to break the bank. We know budgets can be tight in the start-up phase and there isn’t a bottomless well of marketing spend to call upon. The good news is, there are countless ways you can show love to your customers. Let’s look at some of the most common.

Understanding Who They Are

To love your customer, you’re going to need to know who they are. Start by developing an avatar of your ideal customer, the person you can picture most clearly doing business with you. Brainstorm the types of messages that would appeal to them, and how you could best reach them efficiently with your marketing dollars. Once you have really drilled down into what these ideal customers want, you can start providing it effectively. In marketing, your target customer isn’t everybody. If this is your approach, it’s time to get more specific.

Be Personal, Be Warm

An easy and effective way to make long-lasting connections with your customers is to show a personal touch. Even the most cynical among us is a sucker for a thoughtful action. Use the customer’s name when talking to them over email or phone – engage with them via your social media channels. Don’t be afraid to also inject a little personality into your marketing communications, as long as it aligns with the brand you’re trying to promote.

Reward Repeat Business

We all love a sale, and rewarding your most loyal customers with discounts is a sure-fire way to ensure they keep coming back. Around busy sales periods like Black Friday/Cyber Monday and Boxing Day, offer exclusive preview sales to previous customers. They’ll appreciate the offer and it will build loyalty. Don’t want to offer too heavy a discount? Consider other avenues like free trials and buy-one-get-one offers. Make sure you’re advertising these offers so customers know of their existence – otherwise, what’s the point?

Start a Loyalty Program

Open up your wallet/purse and count how many store loyalty cards you’re carrying. Probably quite a few! If your business can support a loyalty program, it’s an effective way of keeping customers coming back. To achieve the rewards, they’re going to have to buy enough product from you to cover any loss in revenue from running the program. The best part? They’ll likely tell their friends about it, boosting your marketing efforts as a bonus.
